Putin Visits Beijing for Key Meetings with Xi on Bilateral, Global Issues
(MENAFN) Vladimir Putin arrived in Beijing on Tuesday for a two-day visit aimed at strengthening coordination with China, where he is set to hold high-level talks with Xi Jinping.
His arrival followed closely after a recent state visit to China by Donald Trump, underscoring an unusually active diplomatic period involving major global powers.
Upon landing, Putin was received by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi before being taken to the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse.
This visit is notable as the first instance in which China has hosted both Russian and US leaders within the same month outside of a multilateral summit framework.
The most recent interaction between Putin and Xi took place in February through a video conference, and the upcoming meeting on Wednesday will be their first in-person discussion since then.
Putin is accompanied by a broad delegation that includes senior officials and representatives from major business sectors, signaling an emphasis on both political and economic coordination.
Discussions are expected to focus on the state of bilateral relations as well as wider geopolitical issues, including the ongoing US-Iran war and developments in the global energy sector.
According to reports, the agenda will also include energy cooperation projects, particularly oil and gas supplies, alongside the proposed Power of Siberia 2 pipeline, which remains a key strategic initiative between the two countries.
