Teen Fatally Stabbed at North Carolina High School

(MENAFN) A high school student was fatally stabbed and a second wounded during an on-campus altercation in North Carolina on Tuesday, authorities confirmed.

Forsyth County Sheriff Bobby Kimbrough announced at a press briefing that a "loss of life" occurred following an "altercation" between two students at North Forsyth High School, noting that investigators are actively examining the circumstances.

The second student involved received medical treatment at a local hospital before being discharged, a sheriff's office representative confirmed.

North Carolina Governor Josh Stein condemned the tragedy as "shocking and horrible."

"North Carolinians need to be safe wherever they are -- especially in school," Stein wrote on social media platform X. "We must never stop working toward a safer North Carolina."

Officials announced the campus will remain shuttered Wednesday, with crisis counseling services made available to students, staff, and faculty members.
