Activists Rally in Mexico City Demanding Accountability
The demonstration unfolded in parallel with the annual Revolution Day military parade, an event commemorating the anniversary of the Mexican Revolution.
This protest came on the heels of major anti-crime demonstrations held the previous Saturday, when thousands marched to the capital’s historic central plaza, the Zocalo, to denounce a security crisis in the country, largely linked to drug cartels and Sheinbaum’s administration.
In this most recent gathering, participants convened at El Angel de la Independencia, a famous landmark positioned along one of the city’s busiest and most essential avenues, before proceeding toward El Zocalo, where the government was conducting the yearly parade.
In contrast to Saturday’s actions, the march occurred without violence or confrontations between civilians and police. Nonetheless, authorities prevented the demonstrators from entering the main square while the parade was underway.
