Wildfire destroys one-third of national park in Namibia

(MENAFN) Namibia’s Minister of Environment, Forestry and Tourism, Indileni Daniel, announced that her country has controlled a huge wildfire after it ravaged over a third of Etosha National Park, one of Africa's biggest nature preserves.

On Monday’s eve, she told a news agency “Most of the fire has been brought u stop nder control, there was no visible fire as we flew over, though teams are still working to extinguish small areas that continue to burn.”

According to Daniel, firefighters will keep on monitoring the area to stop the blaze from starting up again, given that some places are still experiencing minor, sporadic fires.

The massive blaze began on the 22 of September and spread rapidly throughout the park; initial indications suggest it originated from nearby farm activities involving charcoal production.
