Russian confirms hypersonic attacks on Ukraine’s defense industrial site

(MENAFN) Russia’s Defense Ministry has confirmed that its forces conducted coordinated overnight strikes targeting Ukraine’s military-industrial infrastructure and airfields. In a statement on Monday, the ministry said the assault involved long-range precision weapons launched from air, sea, and land platforms. The attack also featured Kinzhal hypersonic ballistic missiles and drones.

“The objective of the strike was fully achieved. All intended targets were successfully hit,” the ministry declared.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky acknowledged the strikes, citing damage in Kiev and its surrounding areas, as well as in the Kharkov and Ivano-Frankivsk regions. He claimed Ukrainian air defenses intercepted drones over Sumy, Khmelnitsky, Kirovograd, Nikolayev, Poltava, and the Kiev-controlled part of Kherson Region.

Zelensky reported the attack lasted through the night, involving over 420 drones and more than 20 missiles. He said the strikes left two people dead and 15 injured.

Earlier reports from Ukrainian media and officials mentioned damage to non-residential buildings in Kiev, including a supermarket, a warehouse, and an uninhabited cottage complex at an undisclosed location.

Moscow reiterated that its strikes are strictly aimed at military facilities and not civilians. Russian officials said these attacks serve as retaliation for Ukrainian strikes deep inside Russian territory, which have often targeted residential areas and critical infrastructure.
