China Condemns Israeli Attacks on Civilians

(MENAFN) On Monday, China strongly denounced the Israeli assaults on innocent civilians in Gaza, emphasizing Beijing’s opposition to Tel Aviv’s breaches of international law.

“We oppose and condemn all moves that harm civilians and violate international law,” stated Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun during a press briefing in Beijing.

He further emphasized, “Civilians should not become the target of attacks and the safety of international humanitarian workers should not be threatened.”

These comments followed a series of Israeli strikes on Sunday across the Gaza Strip, which resulted in the deaths of at least 93 Palestinians and left over 100 wounded, intensifying the mounting humanitarian emergency in the region.

“We hope parties will reach a ceasefire arrangement, calm down the situation, and alleviate the humanitarian crisis as soon as possible,” the spokesperson added.

Since October 2023, Israeli operations have claimed the lives of nearly 59,000 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, predominantly women and children.

The military offensive has left the enclave devastated, causing the collapse of its healthcare infrastructure and severe shortages of food.

In November of last year, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, charging them with war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Gaza.
