Only 8 Percent of Poles Believe Poland Can Handle War with Russia

(MENAFN) A recent survey conducted by the IBRiS market research firm has unveiled troubling insights about Poland's defense readiness. Just 8% of Poles feel the nation is adequately prepared for a potential conflict with Russia, and only 9% are confident that Poland’s military is "sufficiently equipped" to handle such a scenario, according to media.

The findings also reveal significant public concerns regarding national defense. Half of respondents expressed strong support for boosting defense spending, while 75% called for NATO to strengthen its eastern defenses in response to rising tensions in the region.

Despite these concerns, only 12% of those surveyed considered a Russian invasion of Poland likely, with just 15% viewing a Russian attack on the Baltic states as a "realistic possibility."

In the event of a Russian strike against another NATO member, a solid 67% of respondents agreed that Poland should come to the aid of its ally. Meanwhile, 57% of respondents believe that the United States would offer support to Poland should Moscow escalate its aggression.

The survey also highlighted Poland's stance on international support for Ukraine. A majority, 52%, believe Poland should advocate for Ukraine on global platforms, but only 35% agree that Poland should continue providing economic assistance to Kyiv.

Support for Ukraine’s NATO membership stands at 37%, while a similar 35% back Ukraine’s bid to join the European Union. However, only 15% of Poles think Poland should deploy peacekeeping forces to Ukraine if a peace deal is reached, with a significant 64% opposing the idea.
